Meet Ret. Marines Capt. Charlie Jones!

We had the honor to meet and play chess with Ret. Marines Capt. Charlie Jones today, Thursday August 20, 2026! Mr. Roy Smith, Charlie's caretaker, reached out to the Middle Georgia Chess Club this past week looking for someone to play chess with him. That was all it took! About a dozen showed up at the Holiday Pinegate, Macon for a two hour intensive chess playing session! On behalf of the Middle Georgia Chess Club, I thanked him for his years of service and presented him with a chess set of Marines versus US Air Force (to arrive from Amazon this weekend). Before we said goodbye, Charlie recited some of his exciting adventures while in service, including a rare feat of rising from the ranks of Private to Captain. He thanked everyone for coming to play chess with him and said he looked forward to the next meeting.
